No Transparency About Transparency

In previous posts, I’ve talked about transparency as it relates to our government. Both President Obama and Vice President Biden have made much of how their administration would be different from the Bush administration in this regard. They claimed that things would change.

Well, as we’re now seeing, that was apparently just one of those disposable campaign promises. Apparently, Joe Biden has adopted much of the same type of secrecy as his predecessor, Dick Cheney. In an attempt at some extremely poor verbal gymnastics, the White House last year changed Biden’s official schedule from saying “private meetings” to listing meetings that are “closed press”.

Now, perhaps in a purposeful attempt at irony (wink, wink), Biden is apparently today holding one of those “closed press” meetings with, now get this, the chief of transparency for economic recovery. Dang! Biden must be using a different dictionary to define “transparency” because I’m not finding his definition in the one I’ve been using.

Time after time, as the days go by, this current administration continues to prove just how un-different their methods are from the previous one. That leads me to ask how you can have a transparent government, accountable to the people, if you can’t even be transparent about transparency?  I’m just sayin’…
