Pat Robertson…The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Well, he’s done it again…Pat Robertson once again exhibits symptoms of an extreme case of foot-in-mouth disease. This time, about the major earthquake that just occurred yesterday in the country of Haiti, Robertson said this…

“They were under the heel of the French, you know Napoleon the third and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said ‘We will serve you if you will get us free from the prince.’ True story. And so the devil said, ‘Ok it’s a deal.’ And they kicked the French out. The Haitians revolted and got something themselves free. But ever since they have been cursed by one thing after another,” Robertson said.

While some of what Robertson said may or may not be true (I haven’t researched it), how does he think he can be authoritative that this earthquake was caused by God to punish the Haitian people? Did God thunder his voice from the heavens, announcing that he indeed was going to send a disastrous earthquake, killing the “guilty” as well as the innocent? That’s not to mention the fact that what he brought up happened over two centuries ago. Does he think God is punishing people today for what their countrymen may have done nearly 200 years ago?

Why is it that the most well-known Christians are also the ones giving Christianity a bad name?

Edit: Here’s a video of the comments from Robertson…
