The Gaffer

Open mouth, insert foot. That’s probably a common thought going through the minds of people who constantly surround Vice President Joe Biden. I can’t say I dislike the guy but, boy, does he ever come up with some hilarious yet embarrassing comments from time to time. It’s become so commonplace with this guy that I think I shall begin referring to him as “The Gaffer” from now on.

Amongst his many verbal fumbles are the following…

“Look, John’s last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number-one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S, jobs.”

“A man I’m proud to call my friend. A man who will be the next President of the United States — Barack America!” –at his first campaign rally with Barack Obama.  watch video

“When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.” –apparently unaware that FDR wasn’t president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time.

“Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America. Quite frankly, it might have been a better pick than me.” –speaking at a town hall meeting in Nashua, New Hampshire.

“Stand up, Chuck, let ’em see ya.” –-to Missouri state Sen. Chuck Graham, who is in a wheelchair, Columbia, Missouri, Sept. 12, 2008.  watch video

Anyway, if you’ll recall that during the Bush Administration, the Democrats made a big stink about how secretive Vice President Cheney was. They were concerned about what might be going on with him, who he was meeting with, what deals he was making, etc.  Well, in yet another turnabout by the Obama administration, the same thing has been happening with The Gaffer.

Apparently, The Gaffer has been having lots of private meetings with unnamed individuals that are closed to the press. Well, now it looks as if he is no longer having any “private” meetings. On today’s schedule for The Gaffer, the White House showed his schedule with the word “private” no longer appearing, just meetings closed to the press. Thanks for the clarification there, Joe.  I appreciate it. Now that those meetings are no longer private, I can rest assured that everything is above board.

  1. One funny Gaffer moment that I left out…I think it was in the 80s…Biden was basically browbeating a reporter and commented that he was willing to bet his IQ was higher than the reporter’s. 😀

  2. Republicans have had their share of Gaffers too…including President Reagan…they would run the engines on the helicopter so he couldn’t hear reporters questions.

    • Every President/Vice President has said dumb things, no doubt. Biden beats them all, though. He’s made a career of it. Very smart guy but sometimes his tongue is a little too fast for his brain. 😀
